Damn! New trailers popping up everywhere!

So after Tuesday's release of a new X-Men First Class trailer (see the post below), they released a much better cut (and more footage to boot) of the international trailer for it.

Today brings about the release of the trailer for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. Unfortunately you'll have to head over to Apple to see it. Here's the link

Oh yeah, and for you Hairy Pothead fans, there's new trailer for the last (thank Galactus!) movie in the series. Here's the link for that too.

Yet Another X-Men: First Class trailer

Well, it must be Wednesday, because we have yet another X-Men: First Class trailer released. This one shows a bit more footage, and while I'm sold on this movie more than I am on Green Lantern (which just announced yesterday that they are pumping another $9 million into VFX two months before it opens) I'm still kind of neutral on it. Honestly, I could really wait the three extra months it's going to take for this movie to come out on dvd. Anyway, here it is.

Enjoy.

Animated Version of The Dark Knight Returns in the Works?

There have been rumors and leaks that WB is planning to put Frank (Batshit Crazy) Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" into the animation mill ala "All Star Superman". What does that mean? It means that we finally may get to see one of the greatest Batman stories ever told finally in motion.

Granted, there have been excerpts of this story done in animation by Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series, and most recently in last season's Batman: The Brave and the Bold. But we've never gotten the full story animated. Hopefully, we get the full animation treatment, and not some lousy motion comic style like some other cheap skates *cough*Marvel*cough* who still refuse to have a decent animation studio along with their movie division.

But I digress. For those of you that don't know, "The Dark Knight Returns" tells a future tale of an old Batman who comes out of retirement in a Gotham City that is vile to say the least. All the superheroes have been forced into retirement with the exception of Superman.

This was one of the comic books that was responsible for the renaissance of comics moving into darker, more serious territory. It came out in 1986 just about the same time that another game changer of a comic book came out; Watchmen. The one-two punch of these two books really brought comic book writing and content to a new level.

I'll let you all know of a release date when I hear about one.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer

Remember Tim Burton's stinkeroo of a movie? Uh, let me be more specific...the one with Marky Mark and the talking apes. It ended on kind of a cliff-hanger ending that Burton intended to explore, but since his initial movie was so bad he abandoned the idea of a sequel. Well, some other people have decided that an appropriate amount of time has passed, and have decided to bring us a movie of how the ape uprising all started in the first place.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, and looks to be set right here in San Francisco. It comes out on August 5th. Here's the first trailer:

And People Wonder Why I Love G4's AOTS..

Attack of the Show on G4 is just plain ole geek tv. It has movies, comic books, video games, tech, viral web videos, and Bustice. Wait, you've never heard of Bustice? Ah, then you're in for a treat....

Admittedly, this isn't the best in the Bustice series, but you get the gist of it. Enjoy.

Three Movie Reviews (Spoiler Free)

I went and saw three movies today. Why? Because I wasn't sure if I could do four movies in a row without getting a headache, or sick or something. So here are my spoiler free reviews....

HANNA

Hanna stars Saoirse Ronan, Eric Banna, and Cate Blanchett. The best way to describe this loosely is like a weird mash up of "The Boys of Brazil" meets "The Bourne Identity". You've seen the setup in the trailers, a young girl trained as an assassin goes out to kill her target.

There's a little more to it than that, that kind of borders on sci-fi and is never really fully explained or explored. It's more of a character study of someone who has been trained with all the knowledge of the modern world, but none of the practical hands on experience of it, with a bit of guns, knives, and hand-to-hand combat thrown in. Add in shaky cam, a lot of hand-held camera shots, and you get a muddled mess that really could have been so much more with a director that was more interested in giving the audience a full story instead of over stylized visuals and not-so-subtle lesbian overtones.

Rating: Rent it.

PAUL

Paul is the Nick Frost/Simon Pegg movie about two guys from England that go visiting famous UFO sites in the US after Comic Con in San Diego. They just happen to find an alien along the way.

If you're at all a sci-fi fan, then you'll recognize all the nods to alien and space movies the guys have thrown into this one. It doesn't hurt that they also have a strong story backed by quite a crew of actors like Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Bill Hader, and Jane Lynch, just to name a few. I'm not a big fan of Frost's and Pegg's stuff (it's very hit and miss with me), but I liked what I saw with Paul. It was a fun road trip/buddy movie that hit a lot of the right cues. Seth Rogen's voice even didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

Rating: Full Price Ticket.

YOUR HIGHNESS

Now I love my stoner movies. Harold and Kumar (yes, both of them), Dude Where's My Car, Cheech and Chong. But one that I never really dug was Pineapple Express. Why? Mainly Seth Rogen, but also it just felt like the comedy was really, really forced. So I went into this one with a little bit of skepticism...most of which went away with the promise of Natalie Portman in a thong (yeah, I heard the body double rumors too) and Zooey Deschannel with a severely push-up bra.

The movie is a fairly light parody of sword and sorcery movies. Throw in a little pot, a lot of swearing, some nudity (mostly female, but there is a....well, there is male genitalia and let's leave it as a surprise), and some gratuitous bloodshed and you have this movie. The first 20 minutes stumbled along as they tried to get the story groundwork laid, but once that happens it moves along at a quick pace.

There are some funny moments in the movie, but not as many as you might think. Honestly, it was actually played a little straighter as a sword and sorcery movie than I was expecting. Natalie Portman even gets in a pretty good joke during a monologue.

Rating: Bargain MatinĂ©e (and not just due to Portman's butt)

There you have it. Enjoy.

First Glimpse of Hawkeye?

Here's a clip from Thor that's come out. That's not the interesting part. What is interesting, is in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, there's a guy with a bow and arrow hovering overhead. Take a look and see what you think.

Black Dynamite Animated Series to Premiere on Adult Swim

If you haven't seen the Blaxpoltation parody "Black Dynamite" by now, do yourself a favor and add it to your Netflix queue. Easily one of the best comedies of 2009, Michael Jai White (the star and writer of the movie) announced that not only was there a sequel in the works, but that an animated series was in the works as well. Flash forward to today, and we finally have official word that Adult Swim (the night time programming on the Cartoon Network) will be carrying the animated adventures of Black Dynamite starting in 2012.

The show will be animated by the same guys that did The Boondocks animated series, and it will be voiced by the cast from the movie. I'm glad to see this going forward.

Green Lantern Footage

Can't make it to Wondercon? Or didn't know that the Green Lantern panel was on Friday afternoon? Well, never fear, for I have the footage you missed.....well, part of it anyway. And no, it isn't some crappy, out-of-focus YouTube video either. It's a legit HD copy.
